Skin Peel
Treatments

There is one thing that can make or break how you feel about your appearance: YOUR SKIN! Skin Peels are one of our most popular treatments at SkinRx Aesthetic Clinic as they can provide clients with a solution to treat a multitude of skin concerns.

From hyperpigmentation, skin aging, acne, acne scarring, stretch marks and other skin imperfections the correct course of Skin Peels can assist you in getting the results you want to achieve.

Another aspect to consider when treating ethnic skins is the development of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations in which the pigment (as it happens with affections of melasma) can be deposited only in the epidermis or in both, dermis and epidermis. It is extremely important for dark -skinned people to use different methods to control and reduce the pigmentation. Ideal depigmenting agents should have a controlled and selective effect upon melanocytes not entailing any risks of adverse effects.

As SkinRx Aesthetic Clinic is a medical led skin clinic this allows us to offer our clients more Advanced Skin Peel ranges which provide fast and effective results, proven through “in-vitro” and “in-vivo” clinical trials. We specialise in treatments for every different kind of skin pigmentation, whether melanic or melano-hematic, based on phototype, pigmentation type and part of the body affected.

At your consultation our skin specialists will firstly assess your skin to determine which skin peel is best suited to your skin type to give you the best possible results!

Benefits of Chemical Peels

The cell renewal process

Our skin renews and regenerates naturally every 28 days, but with time and at certain times of life, adolescence, pregnancy, menopause, this process becomes irregular and slower; provoking the appearance of skin alterations: acne, shine, dilated pores, wrinkles, dull tone, pigmentation spots, etc.

Undergoing a Chemical Peel, various times a year, helps to maintain a healthy appearance and to:

  • Increase skin radiance
  • Reduce pigmentation
  • Minimise age spots, freckles, sun damage
  • Soften fine lines and wrinkles
  • Rejuvenate the skin
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Treat acne and congestion
  • Soften acne scarring
  • Treat multiple skin concerns in one treatment
  • Even skin tone
  • Treat both face and body
  • Stimulate the production of collagen resulting in firmer skin
  • Lighten and brighten your skin
  • Improve the overall tone and texture of your skin
Pre-Peel Advice

If you are booked in for a treatment, here is some pre-treatment advice:

  • Avoid using self-tanners, scrubs or exfoliating agents for at least 48 hours prior to peel
  • Stop glycolic acid and Retin A/Retinol products one week prior to treatment
  • Do not wax facial hair for 2 weeks beforehand
  • Notify us if you have a history of cold sores, fever blisters or herpes outbreak anywhere on the face prior to appointment
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning for at least a week prior and one month after peel
Post-Peel Advice
  • Avoid exercise and heat treatments (sauna, steam rooms, sunbeds) for 24hrs after procedure
  • For the next 24-48hrs avoid the use of abrasive sponges or exfoliating products; applying recommended moisturiser at least twice daily
  • Avoid products containing alpha-hydroxy acids unless advised by your treatment provider

FAQ’s

What is a skin peel?

A skin peel is a resurfacing treatment designed to improve and enhance the skin. Also known as a face peel, a skin peel is a means of chemically exfoliating the skin by breaking down the intercellular glue that holds together dead skin cells and in turn causing cell turnover bringing new skin to the surface at a faster rate. An increasingly popular with our clients at SkinRx Aesthetic Clinic. Skin peels are a treatment of choice due to results, effectiveness and minimum recovery time.

Why should I get a chemical peel?

Chemical peels have several benefits, including increased collagen production and reductions in pore size, excess surface oil and visible signs of aging. Chemical peels are an effective treatment for hyperpigmentation (dark spots) and acne.

What is involved with a chemical peel?

An acid solution is applied to the skin to remove dead skin cells; this solution is then washed off. You may feel a tingling, itching or burning sensation. Chemical peels are brief procedures that require very little recovery time, although multiple treatments are usually necessary to achieve the best results.

How many treatments will I need?

Light Chemical Peel: A course of 6 Chemical Peel treatments are recommended at 3-4 week intervals for optimum results.

Are there side effects?

Potential complications of a chemical peel may include burning, itching, redness or swelling, and patients of colour may experience temporary darkening (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). Therefore, patients should only receive these treatments in a clinic with expertise in treating darker skin tones.

What after care products will I require?

Aftercare products are compulsory post treatment to avoid any adverse reactions. This will include a cleanser, stem cell elixir, recovery serum, moisturiser and sunscreen SPF 50 to be used daily after your peel and throughout your skincare program. Aftercare products are extra. This will be discussed in detail at your consultation.

Does the treatment hurt?

You may experience a warm/tingling sensation when the peel solution is initially applied which will subside within a few minutes.

Can I wear makeup after a Chemical Peel?

Applying makeup on the day of peel can cause skin irritation. Delay the use of makeup for 24-48hrs (if you need to put it on, we recommend mineral makeup)

Will Chemical Peel get rid of blackheads?

A peel is a great way to increase cell turnover and prevent blocked pores, which help to leave the skin clear and decongested.

What are the possible side effects of Chemical Peel?

All products have a potential for allergic reactions. It is important that you inform the aesthetician of any allergies you may have. Transient reactions may include redness to the skin and dryness. This will settle during the course of treatments and with use of the appropriate treatment creams and sun protection (SPF 50 or SPF 130)
