Microneedling

M PEN is a handheld device about the size of a pen. It has a piece that is inserted into the top of the device, and this piece contains needles, which penetrate the skin at different levels depending on initial skin concerns or the depth of scarring. This micro injury prompts the skin to heal and repair itself, and causes new collagen and elastin to form while helping the breakdown of old collagen. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the healing process. Your skin normally assumes that scars, stretch marks and wrinkles are repaired, but with microneedling treatments, the skin is tricked into repairing itself and to produce more collagen and elastin. Skin remodelling can go on for months after each microneedling treatment. Results can be seen within a week to a few months. Your skin naturally heals itself every 45 days, so with microneedling stimulation changes can be dramatic and fast.

We’ll have you arrive about 30 minutes before your treatment to apply a topical numbing cream. Patients have described the sensation of microneedling similar to brush sensation. The treatment only takes about 30 minutes.  You may experience some redness following your treatment as well as skin peeling. This can be offset by applying Recovery Serum and Stem Cell Serum.

We recommend a series of 6 treatments which should be performed 4-6 weeks apart. For best results, it is not recommended to wait more than 6 weeks between treatments.

We use the M PEN PRO device which can be used up to a 2.5mm depth and has 12 needle points per tip. This is one of the best devices on the market due to the depth and points that can be micro-channeled into the skin.

How quickly are results visible?

Visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and improve further over time. A course of 4-6 Medical Micrneedling treatments is usually recommended to achieve optimum results; however, skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment. To improve the appearance of acne scarring further treatments may be necessary. The number of treatments needed vary from patient to patient and depends on each individual’s skin condition or ailment.

Am I suitable for Microneedling treatment?

M PEN Microneedling is suitable for all skin types and treats a range of skin concerns effectively. Skin needling is especially effective for ageing concerns such as wrinkles, lines, folds, crow’s feet, scars, acne scars and stretch marks. Because collagen is produced, scars and stretch marks can also improve from treatments especially indented acne scars. General lack of skin radiance, skin firmness and compactness are also an indication for skin needling treatments and visible improvements can be seen. 

How long does the treatment take?

Medical microneedling is a 45 – 60 minutes treatment available only at medical clinics.

Does the treatment hurt?

Prior to your medical microneedling treatment, numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area making the experience comfortable and virtually pain free.

Can microneedling treat all skin types?

Yes! All skin types can be safely and successfully treated with M PEN microneedling. Results and expectations can be discussed during your first consultation.

How often should I do microneedling?

Microneedling can be safely repeated repeated every 4 to 6 weeks until you achieve the desired results.

What can I expect after my treatment?

After treatment your skin will be red and flushed in appearance, comparable to mild sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the treated area but this will diminish greatly after a few hours. After 3-5 days, there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place. Allow time off if required. Your skin may also appear more dry than normal with mild flakiness for the 7-14 days.

Can Microneedling treat acne scars?

Absolutely, medical microneedling is one of the most highly regarded treatments for all types of scarring such as acne scars, wound and hypertrophic scarring. Depending on the type of scarring, we often recommend a combination of treatments to achieve the best results.

Can I combine Microneedling with other treatments?

Is the treatment safe?

What are the benefits of M Pen Microneedling?
